The green Graveyard Company Ltd our sister company has just submitted a planning application to Wexford County Council for the establishment of Irelands first "Natural burial ground". This beautiful site is located at Woodbrook House((locally known as Blackers Estate) between the village of Killane and Kiltealy. There is a 200 meter driveway up to the site which is surrounded on both sides by mature chestnut trees. This driveway leads to a 7.5 acre site over looking the blackstairs mountains. Further details to follow. Colin 11/12/09
People sometimes talk about where they would like their final resting place to be. Often they describe a green place with trees, flowers and wildlife in abundance. They describe a beautiful and unspoiled place where their family and friends can visit and be at peace. Conventional Irish Graveyards fall a long way short of these wishes. Our sister company The Green Graveyard Company Ltd are hoping to develop a number of Natural Burial Grounds in Ireland.
Gone are the marble headstones and concrete surrounds that are common place in Irish graveyards, replaced instead by a small grave marker and the planting of a native Irish tree. Visitors will be able to walk along pathways surrounded by native Irish trees and flowers, spotting wildlife in their newly created habitats.
These natural burial grounds will be sacred and natural places where people of all faiths and those without any religion will find a beautiful final resting place.Allowing your funeral to be used as a conservation tool will leave a legacy of care and respect for our planet.
We are in the process of identifying sites throughout Ireland for the development of natural burial grounds.
